Increase Your Energy Efficiency

When it comes to running an energy efficient household and helping to save the environment, there are many things you can do that are simple and will save you money

Energy efficient light bulbs are just as bright as incandescent bulbs, but use 80% less electricity and last as much as 10 times longer, which saves you more money on replacement bulbs, too. Don’t leave your electrical appliances such as your TV, computer, DVD player or stereo system on standby when you’re not using them, because they’re still drawing power on standby. Switch them off at the wall socket.

When you make a cup of tea, only fill your kettle with enough water for one cup in order to save water and electricity. Upgrading to a condensing boiler will save on your gas or electricity bills, because a condensing boiler periodically enters a condensing phase, where it extracts heat from the exhaust gasses that would be lost otherwise and turns it back into liquid.

A condensing boiler has a bigger, or dual, heat exchanger that transfers most of the heat from the burner, making it far more efficient than a conventional boiler, especially one that’s more than 15 years old.
